Simon Atkinson

Client relationship manager, Project specialist: IT

Simon has an extensive career in the Information Technology market, spanning over a quarter of a century. Initially in technical roles, then rising through a variety of commercial to senior management positions, covering both UK and international remits, across EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa) to India and the Far East.

His experience includes hardware, software and associated services, for example support, development, consultancy and managed services across a range of different commercial models. In more recent years, this has been expanded to include Software-As-A-Service (SAAS) and Cloud computing. A particular area of experience is software contracts for non-commodity software. Simon also has a strong knowledge of US Generally-Accepted-Accounting-Principles (US GAAP), which drive the revenue recognition policies of many software companies and hence their sales needs and behaviour.

Simon provides consultancy services on IT-based projects for ERA, across our UK network. These projects may be focused on cost reduction, or more commonly, on smarter spending, where we aim to maximise the value for clients, bringing together a blend of procurement, investment and information technology knowledge to ensure our clients receive high quality independent advice to help them with their IT-based investment decisions.

Some recent projects Simon has worked on include:

  • Review, recommendation and procurement of a new ERP system for an MBO who are decoupling from their internationally headquartered parent. Significant savings were made on implementation costs and phasing of payments to provide cash flow benefits.
  • Full selection, recommendation and implementation of an IT Support & management outsource for the same company, resulting in a complete move to a cloud-based environment, saving significant sums on procurement of hardware and personnel.
  • Outsource of a procurement of a new payment gateway for a well-known and internationally renowned London-based academic institution.
  • Risk assessment for a law firm wishing to take a key strategic decision on the upgrade of their practice management/client accounting system, in terms of whether to remain in-house or move to a cloud-based solution.
