Over half of business travel managers plan to increase the use of online booking tools among employees this year, according to a recent survey.

Increasing compliance and changing relationships with TMCs were next on the list of ways in which respondents intend to change the way they manage travel.

The survey of travel managers by the Business Travel Show also charted the top issues facing buyers in the year ahead, with cutting costs while maintaining quality emerging as the top concern – up five places from the previous year’s survey.

Increasing compliance, GDS content, risk management versus cost savings and increasing hotel rates completed the top five. Airline pricing, supplier negotiations, securing value for money, online adoption and mobile apps filled positions six to ten.

When it comes to travel spend, 29% of those surveyed will have bigger budgets this year and a quarter expect budgets to be cut back. Meanwhile, 44% of buyers expect to arrange more trips in 2016 than 2015 and 19% expect to book fewer.
