Global Marine

Deep diving into spend and exceeding expectations

Global Marine is a large and well-known Marine Engineering Group responsible for laying and maintaining undersea cable systems for Telecommunications, Oil & Gas and Deep Sea Research. The CWind division is responsible for maintaining Sea Wind Farms. Previously owned by Cable & Wireless, BT and Global Crossing, the company is now based out of Chelmsford, Essex with multiple sites around the UK with 700 staff and a £120m turnover.

Global Marine has been an ERA client for several years with projects in Fuel, Communications, Engineering Consumables and Facilities Management. Having secured impressive savings in previous projects, Global Marine were keen to understand whether they were obtaining the best value within their travel spend. Their business operations include sending crews around the world to join their fleet of Cable Laying Vessels.

To start Global Marine’s travel project, ERA conducted an extensive analytical review, looking at 15 months of Global Marine’s data in travel expenditure. Almost 20,000 invoice lines were processed covering an excess of £2.8m in spend. This covered air travel, hotels, car hire and many other travel products.
