ERA Group UK Supporting Samaritans Throughout 2020 to try and raise £20,000!

Raising Money for Samaritans

As a global business, ERA Group has helped support a wide range of charities all around the world.

We are in the people business and our organisation continues to succeed because of the incredibly talented individuals within it. As you can imagine, with so many people in our company, there are a lot of personal experiences and stories which help to explain why so many members of our team contribute to different charities.

Whether through personal experience or in memory of loved ones, our business and the people within it continue to raise money for charitable causes. One of our biggest challenges however, is choosing which charity or community project to support. This is why each year, here in the UK we choose a specific cause to support so that we can maximise our contributions and coordinate as efficiently as possible all of the support from everyone in our organisation.

For 2020, we have chosen Samaritans because of their continued efforts to help those going through some of the hardest moments of their lives and doing everything within their power to always be there for those that just need someone to talk to.

Who are Samaritans?

Samaritans is a unique charity dedicated to reducing feelings of isolation and disconnection that can lead to suicide.

Every six seconds they respond to a call for help.

Every year, they answer more than 5 million calls for help by phone, email, SMS, letter, face to face at one of their local branches and through their Welsh language service.

They are there 24/7, before, during and after a crisis.

Whether it’s an ‘are you ok?’ at just the right moment, or the midnight support of a trained volunteer; whether it’s better training in the workplace or campaigning for more investment in national and local suicide prevention – they are there.

Their charity works to make sure there’s always someone there, for anyone who needs someone.

Every life lost to suicide is a tragedy, and Samaritans’ vision is that fewer people die by suicide.

During 2017, more than 20,000 people volunteered their time for Samaritans:

  • Almost 17,000 trained listening volunteers responded to calls for help
  • 2,000 volunteers supported the running of our 201 branches
  • More than 1,700 people in prisons volunteered as trained Listeners providing peer support

"We want to encourage, promote and celebrate those moments of connection between people that can protect and even save lives."
